The principle is that what you have or allow into in your mind will get into your heart and motivate you: Proverbs 4:23: "Keep your heart with all diligence
for out of it are the issues of life." The desires you allow to form in your
heart will control you. What gets into your heart? The things your
mind dwells on. Matthew 6:20-24
says (v21) "..where your treasure is (i.e. your thoughts), there will your heart be also."
If we allow ourselves to go back again and again to thoughts causing
sexual excitement or pleasure - instead of rejecting them, we will like the
sensation. This "treasure" will get into our heart and become a deep
seated motivation hard to uproot. The Good News is that Christ can
change our heart and give you wisdom to stop if we repent toward God and follow Him.
